Survivors
Riding Club was established in 2008. Robert
LeBon, the founder of the club began sponsoring
poker runs and special fund raisers within
Vermilion Parish a couple of years ago. It was
at one point when he decided to start a riding
club. With several friends, the club was formed
and the task of finding a name had begun.
Because Robert was a survivor of colon cancer,
someone suggested that the name of the club
should be Survivors Riding Club. Being the man
that he is, Robert said that anyone who has
lasted this long in life was a survivor. With
that, the club found it's name...SURVIVORS
RIDING CLUB.
Due to
unforeseen circumstances, Robert is no longer
associated with the club. We are now under new
leadership and still aim to serve our
community.
Survivors
Riding Club stands for doing what's right, doing
right by our friends, doing right by our
brothers and sisters who enjoy riding, doing
right by our community. We ride to serve, at the
same time, we ride for enjoyment of life.
Survivors Riding Club has sponsored several
rides and events that have helped organizations
throughout the parish.
OUR
EVENTS
On January
17, 2008, Survivors Riding Club completed their
first PGR (Patriot Guard Riders) mission as a
club. As PGR members, we attend processions at
funerals for fallen soldiers and farewells to
soldiers going overseas and
returning.
We have fund
raisers and a poker run to raise money for MDA.
We attend the televised special with Jerry's
kids to present the check in the amount of
whatever money we were able to raise.
We have a
team that works for Relay For Life. We have a
huge poker run to raise money and we also attend
the walk at Kaplan High School where we stay
from beginning to end to present the check to
the American Cancer Society.
Our club has
a poker run to raise money to buy Christmas
gifts for the children of Faith House. These are
children who are living in a shelter with their
mothers who are trying to get away from being
abused. Without the gifts we provide for them,
they would have no Christmas
presents.
We also put
together a food drive for the Kaplan Food Bank.
We set up boxes at various locations and
advertise to collect as much food as we
can.
We hold an
annual Poker Run for Vermilion Honor Guard, a
group of volunteers who provide full military
funerals for veterans in Vermilion Parish who
have passed away.
We hold
special events such as garage sales, bar-b-q
dinners and poker runs to raise money for
families in need such as: a sudden death in the
family, children with special needs and
extremely high, unexpected hospital
bills.
OUR
MEMBERS
We are not a
group of big bad bikers like you see on TV. We
are a group of working class citizens that does
charitable work for the people in need
throughout our community. Survivors Riding Club
is a non-profit organization that is registered
with the state of Louisiana. We get great
pleasure and take pride in helping people while
we, at the same time, get to do what we like to
do, which is, ride.
